Network & Inspire

Last week, I was given the opportunity to be a guest speaker at a networking event that took place at the Ted Rogers School of Management (TRSM) at Ryerson University, where I graduated in 2012. I couldn’t help but feel honoured when I was contacted by Rohan and Josie of the Entrepreneurship Alumni Association (ENTRyerson) to be part of this event.

The topic of the evening was “Leveraging Your Major After Graduating“, which attracted entrepreneurship students from first to fourth year. I spoke alongside 5 other intensely driven graduates from TRSM who shared their achievements in entrepreneurship since completing their degree and really enjoyed hearing about their experiences after graduation.  It meant a lot to me to have the chance to share my journey with fellow graduates and students who are destined to do great things.  The entrepreneurship program at TRSM was a great experience for me and I am glad it has continued to develop. I feel extremely privileged to be part of this dynamic group of Alumni and I am eager to see ENTRyerson continue to grow.

The key points that I hope all of those in attendance took from my presentation are the following:

1) Really focus on team projects during your studies. Learn how to collaborate with others because it will be extremely powerful in the real world, whether you are starting your own business or working your way up in a company.

2) Being an entrepreneur doesn’t only mean starting your own business from scratch. It can also mean taking on an existing business and growing it into something the original founders never thought was possible. Remember, entrepreneurship is about experiencing life, identifying opportunities and questioning the status quo.

3) Fail, learn, fail, learn…Like Drew Houston, Founder and CEO of Dropbox, said ” Don’t worry about failure. You only have to be right once.”

I wish the students at TRSM the best of luck in their studies, especially the brave souls taking on the ENT Major
