Before hiring a millennial, it is important to note that there are multiple factors that need to be considered. Here are 5 tips to keep in mind when recruiting millennials into the workforce.
Be sure to create a strong company culture!
There is a misconception that millennial workers don’t seek meaningful employment. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Millennials appreciate a challenging work environment and even find it rewarding. It’s when there is a poor company culture that you will find an employee feel discouraged. When creating an environment that is not only challenging but appealing and rewarding, you will get the best out of your employees!
Be open to a new opinion!
Having a culture where employees can feel open enough to share their opinions and ideas without being immediately shot down is important to millennial workers. Millennials are often thinking about new and progressive ways to reach new audiences, and when given the freedom to share their ideas, you will see a positive attitude when working on a task.
Provide mentorship and feedback!
Millennial workers are eager, hardworking and ambitious. They thrive on receiving feedback, even if it’s not always positive, as they can take the feedback and learn from it. Millennials want to make a difference in the workplace and are enthusiastic when given the right opportunities. To get the best out of your millennial employee, provide feedback and provide opportunities to grow within the organization.
Embrace new technology!
Millennials love technology. They are tech-savvy and can contribute in multiple ways just from their knowledge of new technologies. Often times, many employers have an “old school” approach and don’t want to embrace new technology. However, embrace this and view it as an opportunity, and you won’t be disappointed!
Provide an opportunity!
As mentioned, millennials are ambitious and eager to go above and beyond in the workplace. When given the right opportunities, millennials can surprise you with how much they can achieve and bring to an organization. They embrace opportunity and have strong leadership qualities, that can have a profoundly positive effect at work. So always keep in mind new opportunities to provide your employees, and you will be sure to notice the benefits!
